The Ring of Steel project is ongoing. As well as documenting the security infrastructure and how it developed over the period, we are also interested in collecting information that is harder to find in archives and photographs.

The day-to-day experience of passing through the gates, being searched and moving through a fortified Belfast is thankfully in the past. New generations have arrived since this period, as well as visitors to Belfast from other places, who often have no idea that the Ring of Steel ever existed. A further layer of information consisting of memories and experiences of those who lived through this time is missing from the project, and would add great value to this work.
